I don't understand that. People have been dressing up like Michael Jackson for Halloween for years. Anyway, the thinking is that little girls are going to emulate her, so she should have been more careful.
They never do say what is wrong with dressing up like your favorite rapper. I guess if you're white, everything is off limits and offensive!
I think it's unfortunate that they're not worried that little girls will emulate the risque outfits.

I dunno... I can see why some people would be offended... it reminds folks of the days of white people donning "black face" and portraying African Americans in a negative way.
But I do think it's being blown way the heck out of proportion... the cheerleader actually asked some of her black friends to help her with the look, and
they were apparently not offended... if she weren't a public figure, we wouldn't be hearing about it.
On the other hand, I dressed up as "Lt. Uhura" from
Star Trek for Halloween, and never dreamed of painting myself black to do it, specifically because I'm smart enough to know some folks would find that offensive, including parents of some of the students I work with, and having a "complete" look just wasn't worth it to me... So if I were a well-known person in the public eye, yeah, I would be more careful... just sayin'. *shrug*

... and I don't think we offended any Vulcans.
