saw this article about the Dallas Cowboy cheerleader who impersonated a black rap artist for Halloween. What did they find objectionable? I guess impersonating a black person is racist?
I don't understand that. People have been dressing up like Michael Jackson for Halloween for years. Anyway, the thinking is that little girls are going to emulate her, so she should have been more careful.
They never do say what is wrong with dressing up like your favorite rapper. I guess if you're white, everything is off limits and offensive!
I think it's unfortunate that they're not worried that little girls will emulate the risque outfits.

I think the major objections are coming from newscasters--they had a hard time finding "people on the street" who really cared what some cheerleader wore for Halloween.

yeah, that's what it looked like. I guess we should all take our cue from the loyal purveyors propaganda on what we should be offended about.

This is what I was thinking the whole time I was reading. I'm far more concerned with little girls thinking it's okay to jump around with your bazoomba's hangin' out.

They said she was in "blackface" which was false. There is a specific style to blackface and she did not use that style nor was the make-up "black." She used dark brown make up to make her skin look dark so she could emulate a rapper.

I'm not sure most black people or rapper's would find what she did offensive. She wasn't making fun, she was emulating. Emulating is usually a compliment.

Maybe white's should not be allowed to get tan's either. I've seen women who go to the tanning booth to get about that brown.

Whatever, I think they were just trying to find some way to take people's attention off of this election. What better way than to make someone out to be a racist.

Some of the newspeople seem to think that anyone who votes Republican is automatically a racist so this story kind of ties right in with that--in their minds. IMO.

I dunno... I can see why some people would be offended... it reminds folks of the days of white people donning "black face" and portraying African Americans in a negative way. But I do think it's being blown way the heck out of proportion... the cheerleader actually asked some of her black friends to help her with the look, and they were apparently not offended... if she weren't a public figure, we wouldn't be hearing about it.

On the other hand, I dressed up as "Lt. Uhura" from Star Trek for Halloween, and never dreamed of painting myself black to do it, specifically because I'm smart enough to know some folks would find that offensive, including parents of some of the students I work with, and having a "complete" look just wasn't worth it to me... So if I were a well-known person in the public eye, yeah, I would be more careful... just sayin'. *shrug*

(Hubs made a very good looking Mr. Spock... ... and I don't think we offended any Vulcans. ).
