Steve,
Do you have some "rules" that you go by in your new diet? Such as:
daily calorie limit
number of ounces of meat per meal
number of ounces of meat per day
number of servings of fruit and veggies per day
white meat versus red meat
organic versus non-organic
number of servings of grains per day
I was just wondering if you would share more about what you are eating in relation to your success. Maybe what kind of excercise you've been doing as well. Congratulations on your weight loss thus far. Keep it up.
I always love to hear a good sucess story (such as your). But I'm sort of detail driven. (sorry, don't mean to annoy)
Congrats on the weight loss. Personally, I've lost about 130lbs. in the past 4 years, and, surprisingly, have about 30-40 to go. I started out w/ Atkins and lost 75lbs, but had ZERO energy. At that point, I could at least move my tub o' lard around for some exercise. I now go to the gym 6 days a week w/ 4 of them including a strict free weight routine and cardio on all 6. I eat pretty much what I want, but my family and I have gone organic on as much as we can get our hands on. I also cut out dairy, which helped tremendously as well.

I'm not an expert. But I do know what NOT to eat. Peanut butter, jelly, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, white bread, reduce cheese intake, candy, cake, PORK (very popular here in WV), SODA (I haven't had a soda for almost a year, it is filled with sugar), avoid fast food like the plague.
DRINK TONS OF BOTTLED WATER.
Get an exercise bike, join a gym, and keep your body moving.
Half the battle is in the mind (willpower).

That pretty well eliminates my entire diet... Now if you'll excuse me I have a pork tenderloin encroute to tend to.

Also, eat one big meal a day, and two small ones. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit. Now keep in mind that men tend to lose weight quicker than women. Why? I don't know, I'll ask the wife.

One more thing. This is gonna sound a little disgusting, but be prepared to not smell so good. Years of eating greasy foods will....let's just say become apparent. I've taken more showers and spent more time in the bathroom than I ever imagined.

I will join in on the bandwagon since steve is...
I am also losing weight. I have been watching what i eat, laying off starch, laying off sweets, i drink nothing but water and sometimes gatorade as i am on water pills and am quickly dehydrated. I have GREATLY limited my "dairy" intake. this helps.
as far as the willpower? yeah...that helps.
excersise? yeah that helps.
what do you do though when you are at 1000 total calories a day. you are exercising, eating fresh veggies,(no dressing) no starches, no pork, no caffine, no sugars, you have willpower, yet you are not losing weight?
is it b/c they are lazy?
NOPE.

Exercise helps ALOT Tim. Most of my weight loss has been through investing in an exercise bike, planting it in front of the tv and spending at least 90min to 2 hours on it. Joining a gym helps as well. Keep it up Tim, I want to see a picture of you in about 4 months.

Being a Pennsylvanian, it was something I noticed when I moved down here that PEOPLE LOVE PORK. Just makes me wonder if these same people know WHAT pigs eat, if they did, they wouldn't eat pork.
