My sister used to have a message on her machine where she was playing the part of a baseball announcer and she was stepping up to the plate. She hits a line drive into center field, rounds first, but but gets thrown out at second. She ended the message with "And Dixie's out... leave a message." I thought it was very creative.
For Halloween one year, (reprobate that I am...) I played the intro to Rush's Witch Hunt off their Moving Pictures album in the background. I came on with my best ghoulish voice and maniacal laugh (I do a pretty good one at that) saying "HAHAHAHAHA! It is that time of year when ghosts and ghouls are out wreaking havoc... Arnold is away right now... wait till he sees his place after we are done! HAHAHAHAHAHA! So... if you dare leave your name and number and he will return your call... or perhaps WE WILL!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

I had a friend that just said "Hello" and then paused for about 3 seconds. The caller would always think it was actually him and say "How are you doing?" or some such thing,,,and in the middle of their sentence the machine wouldsay, "I'm not here right now....."
