Have any of you seen this letter sent out from Dr. Horton to parents of current PCC students? Also, related to the same subject, did any of you receive an email from the college asking you to go to StudentReviews.com and give the college a positive review? I received the email but deleted it. Just curious if anyone else had seen either letter.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. {insert last name of parents of college student here}:
As you are aware, college years are such an important time. Attending a Christian college can be a very valuable step toward a successful Christian life. I felt that it might be helpful to share with you an enemy facing college students today.
ABC World News Tonight recently addressed some of the issues involving this electronic age, which provides those with internet access the ability to vent a grudge that demeans others on an anonymous basis. There is practically no recourse for disputing these false accusation, lies, and twisted truths.
Dr. Shelton Smith's article in the March 23, 2007 Sword of the Lord stated:
Often these blogs become little more than gossip centers, rumor mills and character assassination venues. They can castigate and vilify Christian leaders, churches or colleges with impunity and with absolutely no accountability to anyone.
The rantings, so common on blogs, need not be true. Rumor or someone's sour grpaes are often sufficient. Oddly, these rumor-mongering blogs are often generated by some "courageous" soul who is using a pen name, a pseudonym. He then can spew his venom all over the place without putting his real name on it.
It is like writing an anonymous letter, but in the case of the blogs, it is posted for the world to see. No matter how damaging it may be to good, godly people, and no matter that it may or may not be true, it is there. It is uncertified and undocumented. It has no accountability, no checks or balances at all!
Pensacola Christian College has not wavered from having a God-honoring campus where students, in a safe environment, can pillow their heads at night with a clear conscience before God. This is foreign to most people today. With 4,000 residence students, guidelines are needed, or PCC will be like colleges where immorality is normal. Most Christian young people with a heart for the Lord appreciate the wholesome environment these guidelines provide. PCC uses the demerit system; however, historically one-third of the students don't even accumulate enough demerits to keep them on record. As a result, one-third of our students' records reflect 0 demerits for the semester, and many others have minimal demerits. So far this semester 54% have fewer than 15 demerits!
Not all young people who attend Christian colleges desire a Christian atmosphere, and their lives reflect it unless they allow God to change them. This causes them to feel uncomfortable around Christian young people who desire to live a life pleasing to God, and they find it frustrating that their roommates and classmates don't want to participate in conversation that is contemptuous and disrespectful. Fortunately, these students are a small minority at PCC.

When these students leave PCC, rather than investing their lives in helping others and serving Christ, some spend their free time looking for other individuals who agree with their contemptuous perspective. The internet is full of ill-mannered folks who are willing to slander, lie, and gossip to hurt others. There is no desire in their hearts to protect the testimony of other Christians or to uplift the work of the Lord. A handful of former PCC students have engineered anti-PCC rumors on the internet, joined by some who never attended PCC but openly speak against Christian ministries. These individuals are not helping the needy souls in our world; they are not uplifting other Christians; and they desire to draw young people away from a life of Christian living. They hide under an anonymous cloak, so they can boldly lie, slander, or twist half-truths to give false perceptions to stop students from attending a Christian college.
On a number of occasions they have boldly stated that their purpose is to "bash PCC" and to keep students from attending PCC. Much of what they say is slanted toward that end. When someone enters the dialogue with a positive testimonial about PCC, they twist the positive comments to cause doubts or turn them into outright negatives. If a person persists in defending PCC, he will usually end up being ridiculed and intimidated.
As an example of their lies, recently an individual posted on the internet that 400 PCC faculty/staff were not returning, which is false. Faculty and most staff needs are met for the fall. We have an outstanding, dedicated, caring faculty God has called to teach at PCC. The devil is very active in his destructive tricks. Parents, daughters, and sons need to recognize the devil's new way to work evil on the internet. Otherwise, a young family member can become a casualty and never attend a Christian college or pursue God's will for their life.
Prov. 6:16-19 "These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."
Each year, God sends "cream of the crop" students to PCC from every state in the U.S. and 60 international countries. I think anyone who can think for themselves could easily tell what type of place PCC really is just from that letter.

Yesterday I received this email. Other than the first couple paragraphs, it is pretty much the same as the above letter. They're sounding rather desperate to me.

Each year, God sends "cream of the crop" students to PCC from every state in the U.S. and 60 international countries. Prospective students find that a visit to PCC will speak volumes regarding the Christian character of our institution and the education the students receive. The updated PCC website also provides a helpful perspective.
It is our desire that Christian young people will consider PCC rather than choosing schools with humanistic, worldly teaching and environments. As you know, college years are very important in helping a young person make spiritual decisions that will affect them for the rest of their lives. If you appreciate your alma mater, please pray with us that high school seniors will not be discouraged from following God’s leading to PCC because of what they read on the internet, and that the Lord will take care of the detractors and continue to give us an excellent outreach to new students. I believe your prayers and encouragement for young people to consider Pensacola Christian College will make a difference in their lives for eternity.
Here's my favorite quote from that letter.

Was the edit button on when he wrote this? I take away from that quote that they are teaching students to rely on artificial guidelines rather than the work of the Spirit within us to lead them into holy living. I also know that to be true from my six years on campus. I think this sentence above all is most telling of their true attitude towards their students. How sad.

I feel the same way....but they all (IFBx) do that....your life is useless if you don't attend their school or go to their church...

Although I am a PCC grad, I agree with that! I never was an elitist. I believe God has provided many good colleges, and not all of them are IFB or Christian.
