I noticed some interest in Louis L'Amour books on another thread. So as not to hijack a thread dedicated to my good friend Raider, and so as to not inflate the post count talking about books when he will think we are talking about him, I wanted to start a new thread about the books written by Louis L'Amour.
I agree with SLG that his best non-western book is The Last of the Breed. I have read that book several times. My favorite western book is Flint. I also really enjoy the Sackett series.
Here's a bit of trivia for you: In 1977, the Western Writers of America polled their members to list their choice of the top 25 best westerns ever written. L'Amour's Hondo was 14th and Flint was 22nd.
Does anyone here collect the movies based upon his books?

This statement peaked my curiosity. I searched through some non-fiction works I have by Louis L'Amour to see if I could find some reference to his personal beliefs. I found some references to Jesus in Education of a Wandering Man, but no references to his faith. There are several references to a "god" or "gods" in A Trail of Memories - The Quotations of Louis L'Amour. In The Louis L'Amour Companion by Robert Weinberg, there are several personal interviews and none of them deal with L'Amour's personal faith. I can only hope he was saved.

Teri, every so often you come up with an uncharacteristically funny post. This is one made me laugh out loud.

I just watched a L'Amour movie yesterday. It was Crossfire Trail starring Tom Selleck, Wilford Brimley, and NCIS's Mark Harmon. Pretty good stuff.
That is a very good movie. It doesn't quite follow the book of the same title, however. In the book, the lead character is Rafe Caradec instead of Rafe Covington. Also, in the book, Rafe is trying save Charles Rodney's daughter instead of his wife.
