I read the whole thing out loud to my wife the first year after we were married. It was wonderful to share it again with someone for the first time. I plan to do that also with my children as they get older.
Tom: In the book "Jubal" they make many references to pasnuta which was a mastadon. In the back of the book Louie L. said that there were Indian cave paintings in the west which had pictures of an elephant or mastodon. I have never heard or read this before and always wondered how accurate that is or exactly where these hieroglyphics are found. Does anyone know for sure?

Here is one of several websites you can check out. http://www.jqjacobs.net/rock_art/gallery.html

They are fairly well known out west.

I agree with SLG that his best non-western book is The Last of the Breed. I have read that book several times. My favorite western book is Flint. I also really enjoy the Sackett series.

Here's a bit of trivia for you: In 1977, the Western Writers of America polled their members to list their choice of the top 25 best westerns ever written. L'Amour's Hondo was 14th and Flint was 22nd.

Does anyone here collect the movies based upon his books?
I collect them. My lists have either 112 or more on each including his biography, which is fascinating.

I have 80 or so and am slowly working my way down the list.

One of my surprises was ordering a book and it came in Spanish. It was under another name in English.

He can be Godless, though he usually is not.
