Default Surprising statement from "BJU" type pastor

I saw a quote attributed to Drew Conley, Pastor of Hampton Park Baptist Church ( a very, very, very Pro-BJU church) in Greenville, SC.

It said "If you preach a gospel of standards, you're preaching a gospel that engenders human pride."

If so, have they seen the light?

I'd like to see the context. Having been to Hampton Park, I see a lot of the BJU-style of doing things....

It would be interesting. Let us know if you have a link or can get one.

One can hope. Seems many in those camps are coming to understand the truth.

Drew Conley is THE BJU poster boy, I promise he will do nothing to upset that apple cart.

One does not have to practice or condone sin to be relevant.
One does not have to shun all change in order to be 'fundamental'.

Any spiritual activity/action can be done out of pride. That fact doesn't negate the validity of said spiritual activity/action.

I've seen plenty of people who were proud about being against standards.
2Ti 2:24-26 the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
