There are several that come to mind:

1. You say that all of mankind is born with a "sin nature," which is inherited from Adam; that mankind is born in sin and cannot help but sin, yet ...

You say that man is born with a "free will." Does this "free will" imply that a man is capable of choosing to NOT sin? If a man cannot choose to not sin, then what is a "free will?"

2. You say that you believe that anyone who dies without having accepted Christ as savior will spend an eternity languishing in the fires of hell, to be so tormented day and night for ever and every, and deservedly so, yet ...

I can find precious few of you who will admit a belief that said eternal disposition applies to all, no matter the age of the individual, even if an individual who dies without Christ is four or five years old. Are there countless millions of souls in hell, languishing in unimagineable torment today who died at the age of four or five years?

3. You say that the Bible is God's word, and that it is whole and complete, and everything we need, yet ...

You have a library full of "self-help" books, which you find indispensible to a happy life. If the Bible is everything you need, then why do you clutter your house with those other books?

4. You claim to have a burden for your neighbor. Were you to awaken in the middle of the night and find your neighbor's house on fire would you return to bed in hopes that somehow your neighbor escapes his apparent calamitous position? No, you would immediately run to your neighbor's house to offer any assistance that you can, yet ...

How many of you have awaken in the middle of the night and rushed over to your neighbor's house to warn him of the fires of an eternal hell, and offer to him the good news that Jesus died on the cross for him? No, you would rather go snow-skiing in Aspen.

5. You claim to have faith. You have read Hebrews 11:3, which clearly indicates that the only evidence you need to believe that God created the universe is your faith -- that and nothing else, yet ...

You find it so necessary to scour the internet for any scrap of an article that relates that some archaelogical evidence has been found to verify the biblical account of creation.

The very first interview that I had upon graduation from college was with the pastor and head of a large private "Christian" school in Baton Rouge. I was being offered a teaching position, as well as football coach. All was going well until the pastor indicated that he believed that God still raises people from the dead, at which time I indicated that I believed that to be a bogus position to take. The pastor related to me a personal experience of his that he had actually laid hands on a young boy who had died, and that the boy had come back to life. According to the pastor, the boy had died during a church service, and that the boy had lain dead for about 20 minutes when the laying on of hands took place. Now this pastor also happened to have a medical degree, and was indeed a practicing physician. "I verified myself that the boy was dead," the pastor said.

At this I made an offer to the pastor: "Let's you and I drive out to a local cemetary, and once there let us dig up a 100-year old corpse. If you can lay hands on that corpse and it revive, then I shall believe."

Of course, I did not get the job.

Stephen Hawking the brilliant physicist who has been severely crippled for years with neuro muscular dystrophy, still has a sense of humor, read his funny joke:

"Because there is a law* such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist,"

The guy should be a comedian...creation according to Hawking;

"In the beginning gravity spontaneously created the heavens and the earth"

*laws are created by a lawgiver, in the case of gravity, God created such law. The laws that govern how the universe functions were created by God. The universe functions exactly as the Creator intended it to function

Oh my aching foot!!

I shot myself in the foot, down here last week. That's what Gaunt told me. And today, I might shoot my whole leg off. I hope not, because I need that thing!!

But having an inquiring mind, I'm going to take that risk.

I don't believe in 6 or 7 day creationism.

But nonetheless, as I have revealed before I just can't get over the idea that everything is just too well designed not to have been designed. But others, I know, disagree with me.

And so I hope that one of the more scientifically minded will help me to understand the scientific theory or reasoning behind this:

If there is no designer and neither god or man is required, how is it that every April, it knows to bring forth showers so that May can have pretty flowers.

When I ask how did man end up with the ability to think and reason, Gaunt said something about nerve endings needing to adapt. I don't understand how a nerve ending knows it needs to adapt if it doesn't have a brain, (loading my gun to shoot my leg off) but anyway,

How does April know it needs to bring those showers so May can get some pretty flowers? It's been happening every April for many years now.

What is the scientific explanation for this?

Be nice.

Your very bad English grammar makes you appear to be ignorant. Your posts make you appear to be a buffoon. Perhaps you know better and are posting the way you do on purpose just to be funny. If that is the case, then I am all for it. If you are serious about what you preach on this forum, then you are responsible for how others view you and your message. You are responsible. Do something about it or stop posting.
That having been said, you are always welcome in this forum (the unbelievers' forum). I am an expert on most subjects, and humble as I am I am only too happy to tutor you for free.

Please forgive me if I refer to him as "Melvin." Mr. Meister and I shared the same classroom during his and my sojourn at HAC, and since I did require a bit longer to graduate, Mr. Meister did become a staff member before I did, so I did have to refer to him then as "Mister" Meister or "Brother" Meister, which I did not mind one bit.

Although in later years the Meisters and I became more friendly toward each other, early on Mrs. Meister did not like me one bit. She really had no reasons to not like me, but the truth is that early on a lot of people on staff at HAC did not like me one bit. To some degree, and looking back, I cannot say that I blame those who did not like me for not liking me, but Mrs. Meister made it a point to disrupt my social life. It seemed that every time I dated a girl, Mrs. Meister went out of her way to advise the young lady that I was not the kind of fella that a nice girl would date.

Mr. Meister and I worked for a while together on the grounds crew. Mr. Meister was very handy in the ways of mechanics and engineering, and I learned a lot from him. I had the pleasure of taking a trip with Mr. Meister to South Bend, Indiana, to attend a grounds-crew seminar. On the way there and back we quizzed each other in preparation for some test we had to take with Mr. Combs.

I continue to have fond memories of my association with Mr. Meister. I hope he feels the same.

Johnny Pope

As I have often mentioned on this forum, my father was a Baptist minister. I grew up listening to him talk about his days as a tail-gunner on a B-29...

As I have often mentioned on this forum, my father was a Baptist minister. I grew up listening to him talk about his days as a tail-gunner on a B-29 bomber during WWII. He also liked to talk about his days in seminary and his friends there, among whom were a Julian Pope and his wife. Julian Pope is (I do not know if he is still alive) the father of Johnny Pope. As a youngster I occasionally visited the Pope home and was vaguely aware of their son, a few years older than I. From those days I can only recall that their son was not one much for church. As a matter of fact, he was rather a hippie in those days.

Johnny Pope even recalls some of those days when he preaches. He often talks about his days as a rock-and-roll guitarist.

Anyway, I followed Johnny to HAC, and although we were never close friends, we were friends during his time as a student. Even after he became an instructor at the college he and I maintained a close and respectful relationship.

I recall one day in chapel, when HAC met at Baptist City, a visiting preacher asked for everyone to stand who had led someone to Christ the previous week. The speaker then asked those who had won more than 10 to remain standing. Then more than twenty; then more than thirty; etc. Believe it or not, after twenty, Johhny and I were the only two left standing! Eventually, I sat down, and Johnny Pope was the only one left standing.

The sleeze! During his sojourn at HAC, Johnny Pope was allowed to continue his evangelistic meetings, which he had already done prior to college, so on that particular instance, Johnny was counting all of those who had walked the aisle during his week-long meeting of that week. I was only counting those whom I had personally led to the Lord during bus visitation the previous Saturday.

Recently, I was perusing the internet and came across the website of Christchurch in Houston, the church where Johnny is pastor. I noticed a problem with Johnny's bio posted on that sight:

Quote:

Dr. Johnny Pope studied for the ministry at Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Indiana. Upon graduation, he and his wife Barbara spent 10 years in evangelism followed by 3 years of teaching at Hyles-Anderson.

I wrote an email to Johnny -- the first contact we had had with each other in more than 30 years. After a few pleasantries I got down to business, pointing out to him that he had not gone into evangelism for 10 years between the time he graduated from HAC and returned to HAC as an instructor. At most, no more than three years had transpired. Johnny pointed out to me that he had not written the "blurb," but would look into it. Recently, I noticed an update to the "blurb:"

Quote:

Dr. Pope studied for the ministry at Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Indiana. Upon graduation, he and his wife, Barbara, spent 10 years in evangelism along with [emphasis mine] a short tenure on the faculty of Hyles-Anderson. Dr. and Mrs. Pope have been married since 1973, and have four children.

I shall give Johnny the benefit of the doubt about the error in the wording of his original "blurb."

For all or any of Johnny Pope's faults (and I certainly have mine), the man can flat preach. I recently listened to a sermon he presented at chapel at HAC entitled, It's Not Time to Be a wobbler. Yes, Johnny returned to HAC after a 30-year absence to present a chapel sermon!

"I think that hell essentially is separation from God forever. And that is the worst hell that I can think of. But I think people have a hard time believing God is going to allow people to burn in literal fire forever. I think the fire that is mentioned in the Bible is a burning thirst for God that can never be quenched."

He apparently lightened up on who's going to Heaven too.

From an interview with Reverend Schuller:

Quote:

"He’s calling people out of the world for His name, whether they come from the Muslim world, or the Buddhist world, or the Christian world or the non-believing world, they are members of the Body of Christ because they’ve been called by God. They may not even know the name of Jesus but they know in their hearts that they need something that they don’t have, and they turn to the only light that they have, and I think that they are saved, and that they’re going to be with us in heaven."

Billy Graham is probably the pre-eminent evangelist in modern history. Yet, he is rarely, if ever, mentioned upstairs. Maybe it's due to these "radical" views.
