Dr. Sexton was the 2nd speaker (after Bobby Roberson) on Wednesday night of the National Sword Conference. I was there. He preached a message entitled "Friendship". Behind the pulpit he seemed fine but in person he looked wore out....not as in lack of sleep but wore out from the brethren. Some think his message was his "this is why I preached at BJU" message. I just know he wasn't himself after the service in the gym amongst the vendors and attendees. In years past he has stayed for a day or two of the conference but this year he was only there for Wednesday night.
On a side note, next years Crown Conference has a new name and tons of speakers lined up...see the current Baptist Vision. Interesting.

Friendship????...this coming from a man that has done all kinds of evil to those who he once called "friends".....
This sounds more like a man who is reaping what he has sown...

Dr. Sexton and Dr. Chappell were both very encouraging speakers this year, I do love so many of the preachers, but those two placed a pretty big emphasis on getting along... very refreshing! (Though Pastor Sexton does that pretty much every year lol)

Friendship is a weird thing in the world of the IFBx... get a new toy like screens in the church and you're blasted for going liberal...change your church time from 7pm to 6pm and you're blasted for going liberal
True friendship is missing in the world of the IFBx.

It's kind of common knowledge amongst the IFB crowd that Sexton and Chappell aren't on "buddy" terms. This is sad because I remember when they shared pulpits, preached in each other's conferences, and helped each other out (West Coast was like a sister college when I was at Crown in the mid-90's).
I love both men and pray for them as I remember to. Chappell preached a message at the Sword Conf. entitled "Making A Difference".
Both men must remember that the very unity they want on their individual staffs must also be lived out w/ other brethren. Humbleness is not a well-known trait amongst IFB's but it would serve the cause of Christ if they would pursue this virtue and seek the friendship & cooperation of each other.

Your comment hit the nail right on the head. It is so sad, but so very true.

I don't hear/see as much of that kind of attitude in my neck of the woods any more.
Here in my area, we respect each others independance about that sort of thing.
At least that's the way I see things.
I did get mad one time when my home church spent thousands on a video system and screens while we were driving hulks in the bus ministry and had to beg to get them fixed.
Priorities were a bit goofy.

This is what happens to a man that is "ALL IN ALL." He cannot delegate to anyone because he is insecure and his lack of self-confidence is evident to all.
My church believes in a "plurality" of pastors and leaders. Each one becoming their "brothers keepers." A pastor at my church will only speak once a month and sometimes less. And they have weeks to prepare for their message. So, when they are speaking they are always fresh and relaxed.
The "plurality" in leaders is pictured in Acts and I belive is Biblical. Were not talking the antiquated 1611 either

The fact that a message like that has to be preached and seems so novel in the world of IFB is a sad indictment of what that movement has become.
