I am saddened to report that Pastor Baker of Faithway Bapt Church and president of Faithway Bapt College passed away by way of suicide. This is a great loss to his family, his church, to Canada, and to the cause of Christ. I do not know the "why" of the suicide at this point. His wife, Melissa, was in North Carolina at the time of the death. Both she and he are featured speakers at the National Sword Conference in Walkertown, NC and the National Sword Ladies Jubilee in Murfreesboro, TN. My prayers are with Melissa and her two daughters at this time.

Yes, it is a great loss to his family.....but to Canada and the cause of Christ??? Last time I checked Baker was not God...He was just a man....no more important than you or I...

No one said he was. Let it go and just pray for the family.

He committed suicide. Not one of us was in his shoes and the great Deceiver though not in control of the soul of a believer can bring discouragement that "humanly speaking" seems more than we can bear. If we get our eyes of our Saviour, anything can happen! Our hearts are deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.
Look what David who was a friend of God did...adultery and murder! Thank God he forgives and restores.
My heart goes out to the family and people involved in His ministry!
We need bring them before the throne of Grace.

I agree with you. This is a great loss. He was just a man, but was a man who was greatly used of God in Canada. The loss is felt because of the impact that he had on so many people, especially the lives of his family and church. The loss is felt by college students, friends, fellow preachers and pastors (like myself) who respected and admired him for his vision and determination. Just a man? Yes. An exceptional man? yes. A man loved and respected? yes, definitely. Some people who do not understand love, appreciation and loyalty will never understand why some of us can say that this is a great loss to his family, his church, to Canada, and to the cause of Christ.

I was a student there last year, and I can say for sure that he was used of God right up until he died. I wasn't buddy-buddy with him, so I don't feel this as much as many of you do. As far as I know the [ecclesia] church in Ajax will continue to move forward and reach that city for Christ.
I am glad for the short time I knew him, because he has given me a new perspective. He, as someone said, had an incredible impact on Canada, and his reward is waiting for him.

That last sentence is idolatry....that is what we "understand"...
In God's value system and the way He has set up the church, Baker was no more important than the poorest child in Africa...
