....it was hijacked over tithing which had nothing to do with what is being discussed.....
til you had to give me the third degree on a biblical matter.
coachrc I apologize for the discusstion, I didn't know Mr Sells but sounds like a wonderful man.
I believe in tithing and giving beyond that, some don't end of discussion.

..OK, here we ago again...nothing said had anything to do with tithing....first you do not tithe to a college...and second, the man died and left money to different places including Crown...which also has nothing to do with tithing...
your thinking, phebe, it the byproduct of the teaching men that portray God as out to get you and needs to be appeased..rather than a loving Father that gave His only Son for you...
Some first century Christians sold everything they had and shared...that goes beyond any tithe....they did that because they had the right vision of God and His Body...

I'm not really sure that people with our cultural disabilities are capable of having souls, or being saved..People who grow up in a culture that worships pleasure, leisure, and affluence. I think that's where the church is doubly damned when they use Jesus as a vehicle for achieving all of that. Like, if you give a tithe, He'll make you rich" Rich Mullins

Sad, it sounds like the man got used like the rest of us did...
Having known the man, I am sure that he understood that some individuals were using him, and most weren't..........When he gave away money I personally had a struggle with going up and taking it.....But I went. Not because I wanted to use the man, but because I didnt want to deprive him of something that clearly was an immense pleasure. I feel no problem in saying that Frank Sells was more than generous to me when he so kindly contributed to filling my pockets. I thoroughly enjoyed spending what was left over after tithes.
Just so that it is clear............I did know Frank Sells personally.........I did not have as close a relationship with him as those who took care of him (People who I know to this day), but when he saw me he always made sure to speak to me, and it was his kindness and generosity that stuck out, as well as what he taught/preached that I understood. I also had the privilege of seeing him teach young children through object lessons. That was a real treat I will deeply cherish.
Unlike some of you I didn't hear Mr. Sells lecture in College, I heard him lecture in middle school (6th or 7th grade) as for a time we were required to attend his classes. Unlike others I enjoyed it. My parents and I went to Crown to hear him teach back in '98. I was privileged to attend the funeral of a great man of God. Who was great not because of anything he did, but because of who he did it for (God.) So therefore I consider it a God given honor and privilege to have known him. I miss him, and though he would be 99 or 100 by now, I wish he still was around. I am currently helping transcribe and edit my fathers extensive collection of Frank Sells (tapes)teaching at Palmetto Baptist Academy. If you would like to contribute to this effort by sending copies of tapes you have, or VHS, or DVD/CD copies, anything of that nature, please contact me here.
