I haven't heard much around the barber shop whether enrollment is up or down at Champion? In my opinion, that probably means it is down. Has anybody heard the fall enrollment numbers?

Definitely down. I don't know the exact number. In the last 2 years they have had large graduating classes for a college their size. Employment and wages are not good in Hot Springs. There were several that did not return because of finances. I think this will continue to be a problem for Champion. They do have a decent size freshman class. They also lost a few key staff people.

Enrollment is down in many colleges, secular and Christian, due to the economy. This does not necessarily reflect on the schools.

That is not true for secular community colleges. Many are reporting record enrollment.

Here are a variety of very recent news stories from several cities reporting an increase in secular community college enrollment:

(The first one is from Arkansas)

    http://www.nwaonline.net/articles/20...009aznwacc.txt

"Enrollment at NorthWest Arkansas Community College grew to 8,104 students this semester, continuing the college's 19 years of unabated growth.

Total credit hours are up even more. Students are taking 73,478 credit hours this semester, up 16 percent over last fall."

    http://www.omaha.com/article/2009091...31/0/FRONTPAGE

"Metro leaders had expected an enrollment jump — recessions generally increase community college enrollment — but no one on campus expected 17,000 students to show up this fall, the president said."

"That's 2,000 more students than attended the school in fall 2008, he said."

    http://www.meredithnhnews.com/Articl..._colleges.html

"LAKES REGION — As more graduating high school seniors are seeking higher education and more adults are going back to school to learn new skills or trades, community colleges are boasting higher-than-ever enrollment numbers thanks to affordable classes and degree programs.

The first day of the fall semester at Lakes Region Community College saw 1,191 students on campus as compared to 1,026 on the first day last year, an increase of 16 percent."

    http://www.news-journal.com/news/con...gore_75th.html

"Three East Texas community colleges report record enrollment this fall. Two colleges are celebrating anniversaries as well.

Enrollment at Kilgore, Northeast Texas and Panola colleges collectively increased by some 1,400 students, or 14.3 percent over fall 2008 numbers."

I know about 7 or 8 students who recently graduated from CBC or left CBC. The ones who left were concerned over the direction of the music, saying CBC leans both contemporary and southern gospel. Their music is their perogative but if those ex students are correct, CBC will not gain new students from IB churches once the word gets out. Thats how the ball bounces.
