They were hosting Special Olympics back in the 70's when I was there. As part of my "Teaching Special Ed" class I had a 32 year old Down's Syndrome guy I worked with a couple times a week in swimming, bowling, and Special Olympics for almost my whole junior year. He up and died right towards the end of the semester. A real eye-opening experience for me.
Anchor, Wasn't it Mr. Hansel that organized the Special Olympics in Greenville?

Tit 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
They've been actively involved with the Special Olympics since at least the late 70's (I started in 79) but I'm not sure that they actually hosted the special olympics.
I do know that it was a massive outreach, though, even back then.
