If you take the time to learn anything about him you will discover he was a very remarkable man in many ways. While you're in the mood you may want to read Juniors memoirs "Cornbread and Caviar." Different than Builder, but an insightful read none-the-less.

Contrast that book and Turners "Standing Without Apology" to "Island In the Lake of Fire" by Dalhouse. That and the essays by Ted Mercer and you may end up with a different opinion of Bob Sr. and Jr. as well.

BTW, if you are currently and actively involved in BJU I would not recommend being caught with the Ted Mercer essays.

Both my father and father in law were students when the Mercer thing came up. I've had several long conversations with them about what they saw happen. Their version verifies what "Standing without apology" says. Mercer's betrayal had a long ranging affect upon the way the administration did things and positions they held. I.e. It is another aspect of why they were vocal about the liberal take over of the SBC. They saw it as stealing the convention like Mercer tried to take BJU. Junior didn trust anyone.

Just going out on a limb here...... their version of events was told to them by BJsr and not Mercer. See where I'm going with this?

I see where you are going. Two sides to every story. But my Father in law showed me the letter he saved from Mercer. In it Mercer tried to recrute away the students from BJU. It was delivered to their PO boxes on commencement day. It was highly unethical by Mercer.

Mercer spread sour grapes. He tried to endear himself to Bryan and hurt BJU by taking students with him.
