Simply put, they may wake some up to the spiritual connections.
Luke 16:8
And the lord commended the unjust steward,
because he had done wisely:
for the children of this world are in their generation
wiser than the children of light.
(In this saying the dark side is the children of the world.)
There is no doubt that the exegesis of the passage in Isaiah as referring to ha satan is ancient .. apparently including the Book of Enoch (some of which reference may be in Edersheim's article on Jewish Angelology and Demonology) and Tertullian and Origen.
Now I have not run into indications of the specific Lucifer identification before Jerome (and he may have only used lucifer as a translation word) although my research has been very minimal. And I do not expect those a little unawares of spiritual battles to accept the identification.
Shalom,
Steven Avery
