Did some quick research, and it looks like Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music merged with Grand Rapids Baptist College in '93, which then became Cornerstone...

    Makes sense now.

Default Changing the name could help or hurt.

Perhaps it is just time for the school to close. There is no shame in that. Organizations have lifespans and there is no guaranteee of tomorrow.

You maybe right. But how sad especially if there is something that could be done to stop it.

Default The BBFI changed Baptist Bible College East

It can be done. The BBFI changed the name of the other school it owned to Boston Baptist College from Baptist Bible College East. Hey if it will earn support from more churches and bring in more students, go for it.

It is a tough time for the school. With the spilt of Davidson's crowd and the economy and the change of new leadership. Yes the school is on rocky ground. But people who know its past know it has actually been in worst shape.

Listen it is darkest before the dawn. And the BBFI has to let younger leaders take the reigns. The changes I have seen in the last 15 years have been transformational. Good or bad, if one has interest in the school one must pray and support it as one can.

But back to the thread, if changing the name lets it survive, I am all for it. But I think it might need more then that.

Stand in the middle of the road and the result you get run over.

The school Baptist Bible College will die. What will be left is the issue. It's 2009 and it's time to fully change.

Warren, Cedarville, TTU and Liberty will still be here will BBC?

Also, what's wrong with "Marketing"? The school does it now. Website, college days, summer travel groups, school Chaplin speaking at camps, etc...
They market as much as anyone! It's what they are marketing that matters.
Not sure what Warren is... TTU is a shell of itself- is hoping an influx of the Liberty South mentality and Southern Baptist money can save the day. Liberty and Cedarville long ago left any semblance of a Christian school and placed their eggs in the Liberal Arts. To say it is too Fundy for you means to me you must be way out.

For what it is worth- if a Bible College is to exist in this political and economic climate it must divide itself. By that I mean that for BBC to stay alive they should consider becoming the Mother school and having several schools in different regions. Almost like a franchise.

The school long ago became nothing more than the foundation for the largest non denomination denomination in the world- the BBF. A political machine than runs very nearly like the Methodists.

If it dies-and it is on life support- only those who crave power would be notice.

The name change at BBCE to Boston Baptist College was because of legalities not to draw more students or money. If memory serves- it was because of Missouri laws that forced the change.

"Warren" was a reference to Rick Warren - the post you posted. Try to keep up.

To say Cedarville and Liberty aren't a Christian college just shows how ridiculous you are. I have been to the campus of both and that statement is moronic.

Yes - TOO Fundy. Your Cedarville remarks are exactly what I mean. Yes I am way out there - way out in today. Can you hear me back in the 50's?

Again, you failed to respond to my point because I am right. You mocked the ideal of marketing then you used "Warren" as an example. My point was everybody markets everything they do. Some do it good and some do it like BBC - bad.

Changing the name can be done. Is it the cure - no. But they need to make 50 steps to get where they need to be and you got to start somewhere.

Changing the name can send a signal the school is changing. BBC is a lame name and often gets confused with other schools. Or live in the past and do nothing.

The BBF does a horrible job of reaching out to younger leadership. Unless your friends with someone or someone's son they forget about you. Where are all the BBC grads out there doing something for God? They have a built in feeding program but they treat students like garbage and younger pastors not much better.

Disband the Fellowship and move into the SBC.
