I know some people who go there. The church I youth Pastor at strongley supports ABC. Can people tell me how the music is? Is it southern gospel? Is it Bob Jones style? Any info could help. Thanks

Very conservative laced with either grape or cherry....you choose.

Bob Jones, Wilds style. No Southern Gospel as long as Dr. Scovill is breathing.

I would not call ABC music "Bob Jones Style". I think it would be best described as Traditional Sacred Music. BJ music is very Opera-tic, ABC music is just normal singing with a Piano and mayber a few other instruments from time to time. It is very simple, very conservative, and very good. Every music director has his own "style". Dr. Scovill loves mens choir and quartets, but they are not southern gospel. It is just traditional church-like music without all the modern slants of the contempary movement.

It is more like BJU in style than say, SG, CCM or CRM. BJU style means conservative, traditional sacred.

We've had their choir twice in the past 5 months and they were conservative. I would not say the music we heard is quite like Wilds. More like basic Bill Rice Ranch/John Rice music that people changed to make their own arrangements.

You are right, but I would also have to agree with servinghim. On top of conservative, traditional and sacred, it is....... ?formal? (for lack of a better word.) I find ABC music to be a refreshing change on occasion. It has more heart, feeling to it, and leans more toward the old hymns and favorites.

Of late BJ music has concerned me. They are taking songs out of the CCM and "dumbing them down" to make them "acceptable." I personally do not care for some of the songs on the last few CDs. It has been the topic of discussion around our Sunday meal several times of late. (I'm sure that you, G&J, will remember what those conversations can be like) My sister who is a GA said that they had a faculty/staff meeting recently in which they were assured that BJ has not changed and does not intend to change their position on contemporary music. Interesting, as since they felt the need to address it, they must have been recieving complaints.

That being said, with the incredible privilege that I have to be around first quality musicians, with excellent formal training, a steady diet of ABC music gets old as well. I believe that the key is balance. I love the CD by Alton & Dwight- Reflections of Revival.

You are right, contemporary music will NEVER happen at ABC as long as Doc Scovill is there. I can't see Dwight or Alton allowing it either.

Let me help my friend Garland! He was not saying that ABC music sounds like BJU music he was just using BJ music and Wilds music to indicate ABC does not have CCM, Southern Gospel etc. Although I agree that BJ's music is often a little too formal for my taste it is always conservative.

ABC's music is great!! It is conservative, Christ honoring, and yet done with feeling. When Doc sings with the ensemble "Zion's Hill" it is a "hanky-waver" as Dr. Comfort calls it! I am always thrilled to hear the music at ABC.

If you really want the true flavor of music at ABC then get the 2 CD set called "Zion's Hill". All of the songs were recorded live during the school's 15 anniversary Bible Conference. I believe you will be blessed. I was there for almost every song and I know my heart was thrilled at music that affected my heart...not my feet!

    Hope this helps

    Hi Richard!

Actually Jessica posted that about the music.

FTR, we like ABC's music, BJU's music and many other sources as well. Our preference is traditional sacred conservative.

I have not heard the most recent cds. Can you tell me what songs you are talking about? That is the same criticism BJ was lobbing at PCC just a few years ago and I would be very interested to know more about that!!

Also, have you heard the 2 cd set "So filled with wonder am I" very good and lots of variety.

I agree that Alton and Dwight will keep the music right! I also love "Reflections" and "Glory in the Cross" and if that is their music it will remain the schools music
