Anchor, I'll bite. Forgive me if the quotes from Mr. Jones were so painful that you had to ignore and sugar coat them. You did as well as you could with what he gave you.
The Bible calls the utterance of untrue statements sin, in general, and lying specifically. The invocation of God's Word to support that which the Bible does not support falls under the heading of taking the name of God in vain.
Healthy individuals and institutions call sin "sin," make restitution where possible, and learn (grow). Had Mr. Jones III and his supporters done this I would have been one of the first to ply them with accolades.
