This is a quite interesting thread. Has anybody heard of Frank Garlock? Let me say up front that I disagree with Frank's propaganda.
Frank has a video tape series called "Pop! Goes the Music" My church library has this set and my pastor has based sermons around it.
Frank is anti "beat", anti "beats 2 & 4", and definitely anti "Rock/Jazz/Disco". In his video presentation, he uses only a portion of the natural harmonic series (through the 6th partial) to demonstrate his agenda that only triad are Godly. The fact is that Frank's demonstration of the 1st through 6th partials does produce a pleasant sounding, hymn-like, major chord (root, Major 3rd, Perfect 5th).

But the physics of sound and the natural harmonic series has many more than only 6 partials. The illustration at the above reference link takes the series through the 20th partial. If Garlock had gone beyond the 6th partial, he would have proven that God created the genre Jazz. Becuase the 7th partial is the flatted 7th scale degree of the major scale which is used in creating the Dominant 7th chord, the 9th partial which is the 9th scale degree (2nd an octave higher), the 11th partial which is the flatted 11th scale degree (flatted 5th an octave higher), 13th partial which is the flatted 12th scale degree (flatted 6th an octave higher).
So what Garlock preaches is not a lie, but his presentation is deceitfully skewed. He leads his fundamental audiences to believe that there are only 6 partials and the audience believes his babble because none have tested him on the extent of the whole natural harmonic overtone series.
